Have you even had a friend or family member who just seems to make everything in the kitchen look like a breeze? They throw together a beautiful meal without a recipe or much thought. It takes nothing for them to get comfy, in fact it only takes them just a few minutes and they are confidently sipping wine while they do it.
You’re watching and anticipating, wondering why you don’t possess this skill….
At one point or another, we have all felt a little intimidated, But the truth is, you don’t need to feel afraid; your fear is not needed in the kitchen.
Rather, lets try to change our attitude and embrace the kitchen.
Look at it as if it was a happy place to be in, why not? It’s the place where all good nourishment is turned into a satisfying and delightful experience.
To make the whole experience even more pleasurable, make a decision to get well organised. This is where I can help you find your feet.
There are a few more small changes you can make to help you feel happier, cook healthier and make you want to keep coming back to the kitchen. Here are a some suggestions to get you started:
-
Have a place for everything
Declutter your space and make a specific place for everything. This should be practical so that the things you use the most are the most accessible. Get rid of things that are covered in dust!
-
Have a stocked pantry with your favourite:
- Dried herbs and Spices
- Good quality salt (Himalayan or Molden Salt)
- Cold pressed olive oil
- Organic apple cider vinegar, balsamic or other vinegar you enjoy
- Vegetable bouillon, stock or Braggs amino acid
- Tamari sauce
-
Make sure you have a timer.
Timers are practical and allow you to be more efficient in the kitchen. This is good because we all have other things to do besides cooking.
-
Always keep an active shopping list.
I have a board or a piece of paper with a list of what I need. It’s immediate, so must be accessible. When you run out or think of something you need, write it down straight away.
-
Get Zen in the Kitchen.
Enter with a deep breath, focus and see this moment as a whole. Food is nourishment and food is something more enjoyed when shared. Making and preparing a good meal is very rewarding. Enjoy the whole process. Be relaxed, put on some good tunes, sip a delicious glass of wine or lemon water and let yourself get creative.
-
Invest in a Basic Utensil List.
Making sure you have the right equipment is one of the best ways to ensure success. Set yourself up correctly, and it takes the stress out of preparing a good meal. You don’t need much.
