You want to get fit and healthy so would the logical thing not be to join a gym?
How many of us have gone skipping off to the gym all enthused and keen to set up that monthly payment with the intention of visiting the gym regularly especially to get our money’s worth?
But then… A few short weeks later we are over it and the visits get fewer and fewer, stopping altogether even. The payments still keep exiting your account because “I’ll get back into it”.
I can’t deny that I have in my life been an avid gym goer
And I by no means am dissing the gym or suggesting not to use it. I am only planting an idea especially to those, myself included that haven’t ever thought about a more sustainable approach to getting fit and healthy.
About a year ago I decided to try out a health coach since this is what I really want to become myself. I made a commitment to myself to pay a monthly fee and get two one hour sessions plus email/what’s app support in between. I am so very happy I made that decision because the results have been far greater than I expected and certainly more valuable than just hitting the gym.
How?
Well, since I’m paying for a service, I obviously want to get my money’s worth and so one of the biggest benefits of having a health coach is having someone you are accountable to! This might sound strange but I do not want to waste time and money and so I generally like to make sure I follow through on the things we discuss. This I have found has been a great motivator in making sure I achieve the goals I set.
Whether you:
- Want to lose weight
- Eat a healthier diet
- Deal with your anxiety
- Or in my case, all of the above plus I wanted someone to hold my hand while starting my own business
The right matched coach can help you achieve your goals and keep you on track.
So where does the gym come into this?
Even though paying for a gym membership is still paying for a service, I somehow feel less obligated to want to get my money’s worth. I realized that to get fit and healthy I needed more than a gym plus my health coach has sent me much more interesting exercise packages than doing the usual old gym grind. I get to choose where I exercise and when and I have much more fun doing it because of all these variations.
I make healthy choices for my diet which is quite easy for me since healthy eating and cooking is my passion but we all fall off the wayside and so thankfully my health coach can bring me back on track again.
Since I have this person to talk to and confide in I feel any problems “shared” are “halved” and so I feel I have support which in turn keeps my anxiety at bay.
Here are some of the other ways my health coach helps me:
- Sends me appropriate information
- Offers advise and shares personal experiences
- Edits my writing and makes good constructive suggestions
- Sets tasks and sends helpful worksheets to help me figure things out
- Keeps me accountable
- She even sends me potential new clients!
Through this experience I am generally happier and feel I am in control of my life.
With that comes a healthier mindset and so naturally I have lost a little weight and maintained it with complete ease. These are all the side benefits that I did not expect and that is why I feel that taking on a health coach is a totally valuable experience that will surprise you in many positive ways.
I am so grateful to Natalie Bell Hill who has helped me greatly and is helping me still to be able to go out there and be a support to anyone needing a bit of guidance on how to lead a healthier, happier, fitter, sexier life.
