What Does Nourishment Really Mean?

To grow, you must nourish yourself but nourishment is not just about food.

It’s about providing good conditions and good substances for good physical, mental and spiritual health.

After my husband of 15 years and I parted, I felt completely wiped out and depleted. It was thanks to my dear aunt and her nourishing beliefs that I was able to build myself up again and begin a new journey. I was provided with all the conditions needed to help me to grow strong again.

I was fed wholesome hearty food

I was provided a safe place where I could rest

I was even given a space to create, one of the most powerful ways I could heal my pain

Slowly step by step I grew into a stronger, healthier and happier person.

Today with the phenomenal “health revolution” happening all around us, it may seem daunting to know what the best course of action we should take to get nourished. There is so much hype around what we should and shouldn’t be eating. What forms of exercise we really should be doing and how long we should be meditating for. In fact, it can all seem a bit overwhelming.

That said, it is actually quite simple. Good healthy food, plenty of rest and an outlet or means of release whatever form of expression that may take.

For me, it’s a package deal and it should be balanced.

If we follow a couple of simple rules, we will be on to a great start.

My first suggested rule is:

•      Start by taking small steps

Choose only the steps that are easy for you to sustain. Don’t place too much pressure on yourself.

My second suggested rule is:

•      Cover the basics

Make sure to incorporate healthier food options in your diet. Drink plenty of water. Get good quality sleep. Find the form of exercise that really works for you and that you enjoy. Experiment with different forms of expression.

My third and final suggested rule is:

•      Take time out just for you

Taking time out of your normal daily routine and placing yourself in an environment of nature, nurture and nourishment can get you leaps ahead. Consider retreating to a beautiful, inspiring place, away from the hustle of it all.
